WINE ESTATE
•Vina Ijalba was founded in 1975 by Dionisio Ruiz Ijalba, with the planting of the first vineyard of Villamediana de Irega (near Logro). The vines of Vina Ijalba have been cultivated strictly in accordance with traditional Rioja rules: high density, in infertile and shallow soils, no use of chemical fertilizers (only dung), no irrigation during the
growing cycle, and no use of insecticides or pesticides.
SOIL
• The entire vineyard is planted on abandoned opencast mines, which have been restored from an environmental point of view, having received several national and European prizes for the restoration undergone.As a consequence of the location of the vineyard, the soils are poor, with little depth and limy.
GRAPE VARIETY
• 100% Tempranillo
VINIFICATION
• Intensive selections of the grape, after being crushed and pressed, go into stainless steel tanks for fermentation, with constant temperature control. Then, the wine will be fined, filtered, bottled and stored for at least one more one year before sale. At least 3 years in all will pass before the production cycle is finished, in accordance to the rules of DOC Rioja. The wine will be stored in an underground cellar without light or noise at a constant temperature of 14C and at a relatively high level of humidity.
FOOD PAIRING
• This wine goes well with all types of pork, grilled meat with bone(such a lamb chops), fish (sardines), paella dishes and pasta. The wine is also a nice combination with cheese.
TASTING NOTES
• “Wine of violet colour, intense, fruity aroma, typical of Tempranillo. A full mouthfeel with a beautiful bouquet wine. Smooth and creamy with nice length in the mouth. This wine can be consumed immediately or stored up to 8 or 12 years in a wine cellar under good conditions. .”
