The Sangiovese is an indigenous varietal of ancient origins. The literal translation of its name is “Blood of Jove”. While best known as a workhorse varietal in Toscana, this varietal is cultivated in other Italian regions and can be found in New World vineyards. Sangiovese is slow and late to ripen, which results in a rich, alcoholic and long-lived wine.
