Further information:
The big brother to Siir, the Arberesko see’s the same amount of time of aging, however there are some used barriques used, and the major difference is that while the Siir comes from the younger vineyards, the Arberesko comes from primarily the older parcels. The Arberesko also sees a few more days of maceration. Starting with the 2010 vintage, there will be a DOCG added to the appellation to wines aged a minimum of three years in wood. This wine is a perfect example of why Aglianico del Vulture is often referred to as the Barolo of the south… it is still a baby, with incredible structure and tannins that as they soften over time will render the wine only more and more pleasing and complex. While the two most well known regions for Aglianico are Basilicata and Campania (Taurasi), it is also grown in Calabria, Puglia and Molise.
