2011
Taste Rosé
Nothing captures the spirit of the North Fork better than a glass of Taste Rosé. Fresh and balanced, this handcrafted wine is made from a unique blend of estate grown Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah. The coral pink color is the result of a gentle whole-cluster pressing of grapes immediately after harvest. Fermentation was completed naturally using indigenous yeast. Aromas and !avors of wild strawberry, papaya and white peaches are surrounded by a crisp, citrus minerality. Internationally renowned artist Barbara Kruger created the label art exclusively for Bedell, suggesting the notion that Taste can influence what we love, how we live, and who we think we are. 2011 is considered one of the most unusual vintage seasons on the North Fork. Infamous for having an earthquake and a hurricane
in the same week – nevertheless our vineyard persevered and produced some of the best fruit we’ve ever seen. We had a typical late start to the spring, followed by periods of intense heat and crystal clear skies. The summer was one of the warmest on record yet temperatures were rarely extreme. Our yields were low, one to two tons per acre, so our crop ripened quickly, well before the late October rains. By late September, the turbulent conditions ended and we settled into a dry weather pattern. Sugar levels are lower than last year leaving us balanced wines with moderate alcohol and thirst-quenching acidity. An elegant vintage producing crisp, aromatic whites and roses and soft, approachable reds.
