Robert Parker, Jr.-The Wine Advocate: Rated as An outstanding wine of exceptional complexity and character. “Castillo de Maluenda’s 2009 Punto y Coma is 100% Garnacha sourced from 40-year-old estate vineyards that spent 9 months in French oak. Fragrant black cherries and creme de cassis aromas frame a sweet, succulent, forward offering that will deliver pleasure over the next 8 years. Drink 2011-2019.” Jun 2011
Winery: “The ancient Garnacha vines which grow in the highest slopes of our region produce very low yields. These grapes are little treasures housing all the secrets and features of our region. Aged in french oak barrels for 9 months, Punto Y Coma is a soft and intense wine brimming with ripe fruit and leaving a long and nice finish. Winemaker: Sebastian Hernandez Olivan.”
Wired For Wine: This Castillo de Maluenda Punto Y Coma Garnacha is delicious just about anywhere, but especially in front of the fire while you’re trying to chase away the chill… Savor your first glass with sausage stuffed mushrooms and visions of the next course dancing through your head. The lush black fruit and succulent concentration make this Punto Y Coma ideal with most meats, braised dishes, pizzas, spicy dishes and lots more. The folks at Robert Parker say this sultry Spaniard “will deliver pleasure”, and we think that’s an understatement. Bottom line: at this price, you’d better stock up winelovers!! Chicken with a Catalan Picada (a blend of toasted nuts, bread, herbs, chocolate and garlic) is the perfect Spanish partner. The savory side of this ruby red will work well with a Moroccan beef stew with some kick to it. If you’ve got some time on your hands, aromatic braised lamb with prunes and pine nuts is well worth the wait. Finish off by opening another bottle or two and serving it with mammoth black Greek olives with Kasseri cheese. It’ll make you want to go right back to square one with the stuffed mushrooms!
