Between Nackenheim and Nierstein is located along the Rhine and in the interior, to Schwabsburg, called “Roter Hang” (red slope) as “Filetstück” is in Rheinhessen.
The name is derived from the soil type “Rotliegendes”, a mixture of lime and sand / clay, colored red by iron. Here it is very hot in summer: the nutrient rich soil by its color rapidly heated, the heat stays between hanging vines and huge water of the Rhine reflects a lot of sunlight during the day and working at night when heating. This particular geographical place delivers especially fresh-fruity Rieslings with delicate fruit flavors (peach and apricot).
Father Dieter Huff invested here in the past in a number of lots in the prestigious vineyards Shipping and Pettenthal, but more exciting is actually the more inland vineyard Schloß Schwabsburg. The prevailing influence here (= drought) of the country namely climate leads to low yields (for example, in 2005 only 25 hl / ha) and is moderate muscular wines with tropical fruit aromas. However, the mineral structure of the soil and slightly cooler nights result in fine acidity, so that the wines do not happen too heavy.
Son Daniel (30), the last 5 years is responsible for the vinification of the wines, is according to Gault Millau as “einer der größten Talente in Rheinhessen” and earned the “absolut gelungenen 2007er Weine, who auch durch ein véritables Preiss-Genuss -Verhältnis überzeugen “in 2009 his second bunch of grapes in this wine guide.
